But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Shannon Sanford, RN, IBCLC
For fifteen years, I worked in a busy hospital nursery/neonatal intensive care unit caring for hundreds of new babies every month. I treasured each and every experience managing the care of newborns from birth to discharge, especially when I helped a mom feed her baby during the golden moments immediately following birth, or later while in the well-born nursery, rooming-in with mom, or if receiving special care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
I have been privileged to provide breastfeeding support directly to mothers and infants for over ten years. After six years of additional study, while logging over 2,000 clinical hours working with breastfeeding dyads (mother and child), I earned my first Board-Certified status in 2008 and have been in private practice since 2010. My second re-certification is occurring in the fall of this year.
I opened the Brazos Valley's first lactation center and baby store in 2012. I proudly represent a very small percentage of the world's IBCLCs because I am not a mother and have never breastfed a child (because I have never had a child). Because I do not bring personal experiences into your consultation, I am uniquely qualified to remain "theoretically" pure as we problem-solve your specific situation together.
